The Frank Menschner Cup took place September 1st - 3rd in Radotin, Czech Republic. This tournament was organized as a memorial for the late Frank Menschner who was well know at the Ales Hrebesky Memorial Tournament. Frank helped grow the AHM on an international level by bringing the first US team to play in the AHM in 2001. Since then the tournament has grown to 21 teams strong from all over the globe.
For the last 15 years Frank has made Radotin his second home. Passing on knowledge, stories, and his own experiences onto the next generation of lacrosse players in the Czech Republic. Many of whom were youth players when Frank first came to Radotin but, are now adults and some are now members of the Czech National team. To honor and thank Frank for all the time he spent in Radotin the organizers of the AHM have decided to host another tournament, The Frank Menschner Cup.
The first ever FM Cup consisted of nine teams from across Europe and the United States. The Menschner Men, representing the USA, were compiled of players from the greater Philadelphia area who had played with Frank back home. As well as guys from across Europe that have had the pleasure to meet and play with Frank in the AHM Tournament. There were eight countries represented on the Menschner Men team. Seven from the United States, five from Germany, four from Slovakia, and one each from the Czech Republic, Finland, Turkey, Sweden and Austria.
The Menschner Men fought hard through pool play going 3-1 only to be downed by the home town team, LC Custodes. In the playoffs they finished 2-1 again being downed by the LC Custodes in the semifinals sending them to the bronze round game.
The final tally came out with The Menschner Men placing 3rd, TJ Malsice placed 2nd, LC Custodes took 1st in the inaugural Frank Menschner Memorial Cup.
