How To Choose The Right Lacrosse Goal

Lacrosse is a popular team sport that is played between two teams of players who use their feet, arms, and hands to hitPoints on a field with a ball. The goal is to score goals by passing the ball into the opposing goal area while being scored on by your teammates. And whether you're playing solo or with a team, having a proper lacrosse goal will go a long way towards enabling you to have more enjoyable games. There are several different lacrosse goals that can be used, and it doesn't matter if you're new to the game or an experienced player; you will find one that works for you. Here are some things you need to know about choosing the right lacrosse goal.

Size

What are you going to be using your lacrosse goal for? Are you training kids, or do you have a men's team? Will your field house have space restrictions? These questions will help you determine what size goal is right for you. Your local sporting goods store can help guide you in making sure it's sized correctly. You don't want to buy a small, recreational lacrosse goal and find out that it doesn't fit on your field after installation. The better you understand what size and type of lacrosse goals would work best for your area, the better equipped you are to make suggestions based on that experience.

Material

There are a variety of different materials in which lacrosse goals can be made out of. While they all have their individual uses, there is one material that stands above all others; Fiberglass. Not only does Fiberglass provide a large amount of durability, but it also makes for a light-weight goal allowing for ease in transport and setup. In order to make sure you're purchasing a quality lacrosse goal, be sure to look for a Fiberglass sticker or banner on top or bottom of your pole. Although additional material types can be used, such as Aluminum and Steel, these lighter materials do not provide durability like Fiberglass, so if longevity is important, stick with Fiberglass.

Netting

When choosing a lacrosse goal, choosing to the net is probably one of the most important decisions you have to make. While plastic nets might seem like a great idea, they won't last long and eventually become useless after several days of use. If you're trying to save money, skip plastic nets and invest in nylon or polyester. Nylon and polyester nets are incredibly durable and can last for years with proper care and maintenance; best of all, they won't break your bank as much as other materials.

Shape

Lacrosse goals have three main shapes: standup, in-ground and portable. Players often use standup and in-ground lacrosse goals in schools and organizations where they will practice regularly. A portable goal is better for practice on a beach or other open space since it can be folded up when not used. When choosing a lacrosse goal, make sure to pick one that is large enough for you to shoot from comfortably without having to worry about whether or not you'll score.

Location

Before making that final lacrosse goal choice, it is important to consider where you plan on playing. This can determine how large or small of a goal you will need. For example, a smaller and less expensive option is sufficient if you are playing in your backyard. If you plan to play at a park or facility, there are size requirements that must be met before allowing your use of their equipment.

Price

Although there are many options at varying price points, you can quickly eliminate those that don't fit within your budget. Set a minimum price, and then start looking for goals that meet your criteria without exceeding your maximum amount. If you're an avid player, it's wise to look for something built well that will last through heavy use; if money is tight, consider buying used or leasing a goal as an alternative.
